Becoming Something New: When God Transforms You Heart.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Lately, I’ve been witnessing something in my life that I can only describe as transformation.

Not the kind that happens on the outside first, but the kind that begins deep within the heart — the quiet work that only God can do.

Sometimes I sit quietly and realise that the person I am becoming is very different from the person I always believed myself to be.

For most of my life, I thought I was an extrovert. I was loud, expressive, and often the center of attention. I was strong, aggressive when I needed to be, impatient, and very firm. People didn’t mess around with me, and in many ways that strength became a kind of armor. It helped me survive difficult seasons and protect what mattered to me.

But lately, something inside me has been shifting.

The more time I spend with God, the more I feel Him softening parts of my heart that I once thought defined me. I find myself becoming quieter. Gentler. More still.

I don’t feel the need to argue anymore. I don’t want to fight or prove a point. The desire to be the loudest voice in the room or the center of attention is slowly fading. Instead, I find myself craving peace.

A quiet life.

A gentle spirit.

And the most surprising part is that I’m starting to enjoy my own company. Sitting in silence, thinking, praying, reflecting — these moments are no longer uncomfortable. They have become sacred spaces where I feel closest to God.

Of course, there are still moments of loneliness. The thought of having a husband one day — someone to share life with, someone to walk beside me — is something I do think about often. But even with those thoughts, there is a deep peace growing inside of me.

Because I am learning to trust God completely with my life.

What amazes me even more is that the change isn’t only happening in my heart — it’s showing up in the way I care for myself too.

I’ve started exercising and training, and I’m actually enjoying it. I’m losing weight, feeling stronger, and taking care of my body in ways I never really prioritised before. I’ve started doing my skincare routine faithfully every single day, and I’m learning to treat my body with care and respect.

I also really want to quit smoking.

There are so many areas of my life that are slowly shifting.

At first, if I’m honest, some of these changes were driven by pain. When my marriage began falling apart, part of me wanted to look better, feel stronger, and prove something. There was a small part of my motivation that came from wanting revenge.

But something beautiful has happened along the way.

Now I’m not doing these things to prove anything to anyone.

I’m doing them because they make me feel good. They make my spirit feel good. They are helping me become the person I believe God is shaping me to be.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

Today I had another moment that reminded me of this trust.

My school has been growing so much lately that we are running out of space. What started as a small step of faith has slowly grown into something bigger than I imagined. Children filling classrooms, laughter in the playground, teachers moving between lessons — it’s beautiful, but it also brings practical questions.

Where do we put the next child?

Where do we grow from here?

Today I felt the familiar anxiety creeping in. My mind immediately started racing ahead, trying to solve the problem. I began thinking about renting another building, extending the school, making plans and trying to control the future the way I used to.

But then I paused.

And in that quiet moment, I felt God whisper to my heart:

“Don’t worry about that. The next time you move, you’ll be moving into your husband’s house.”

Suddenly the anxiety disappeared.

Peace replaced it.

Not because I suddenly had every detail figured out, but because I was reminded that my life is not something I have to force into place. God already sees the road ahead. He already knows the timing, the doors that will open, and the people He will place in my life.

The more I walk with Him, the more I realise something powerful:

The person I thought I was… and the person I am becoming… are two very different people.

And for the first time in a long time, I can honestly say that I love the person I am becoming.

Not because I have everything figured out.

But because I know the One who is guiding my steps.

A Prayer

Lord,
Thank You for the quiet work You do in our hearts.
Thank You for transforming us in ways we never expected.
Help us to trust You with every part of our lives — our past, our present, and our future.
Teach us to walk in gentleness, to live in peace, and to follow wherever You lead.
Amen.
