Lord Do You Hear Me?
This morning I woke up sick — the kind of sick where even opening my eyes felt unbearable. My head pounded like drums inside my skull, my stomach twisted, and my vision blurred. I thought, How am I supposed to do this today?
Then I heard the kids.
“Mom, I’m hungry.”
“Mom, I want breakfast.”
The youngest crying, tugging, refusing to settle.
And there I was, unable to move, whispering to God through the pain: Please, just let them sit quietly. Please let them watch a movie so I can close my eyes for a while.
But then the guilt hits.
It’s already the final stretch before payday — cupboards are thinning, my body is weak, and all I can offer them is another movie on the couch. They should be outside in the fresh air, playing, running, laughing… not stuck indoors while I fight to hold it together. I hate that I feel like I’m failing them, and I hate that this is becoming normal.
And still, the demands don’t stop. Motherhood doesn’t pause because I’m sick, tired, or broke.
So I cry out to God, Why? Why do fathers not rise up like they used to? Why are so many mothers left alone carrying this unbearable load? Lord, why don’t You hear me? Why does it feel like my prayers are echoing off the walls?
It breaks me that single motherhood has become so common — almost expected. This was never God’s design. The enemy is hard at work tearing apart families, leaving mothers crushed under responsibility and children without the stability they deserve.
But even in the middle of this storm, I remind myself: God is still here.
Even when I can’t feel Him, He sees the tears. He hears the groans that never make it into words. He knows the weight of every mother doing it alone. Psalm 56:8 says, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle.” Not one moment of our pain is wasted.
To every single mom reading this: if you’ve ever felt guilty for putting on another movie just so you could breathe, if you’ve ever cried in secret because you’re stretched too thin, if you’ve ever asked God why and wondered if He hears you… you’re not alone. I’m right there with you. And together, even in our brokenness, we cling to the hope that God is still mending families, still restoring hearts, still carrying us through.
🙌 How do you cope in those moments when the guilt, the exhaustion, and the unanswered prayers feel too heavy? Let’s be real, let’s share, and let’s lift each other up in prayer.
A Prayer for a weary mom
Heavenly Father,
I come before You today tired, overwhelmed, and feeling like I’m not enough. Lord, You see the weight I carry, the guilt I feel, and the tears I cry in secret. You know the struggles of raising children alone, the empty cupboards, the pounding headaches, and the endless demands.
Father, sometimes I wonder if You hear me — but I choose to believe that You do. I choose to believe that even when I feel forgotten, You are near. Remind me, Lord, that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness.
Cover my children with Your love when I feel too weak to give them what they need. Guard their hearts and let them know they are deeply loved, even in the chaos. Provide for us in ways I cannot see, and restore the family structure the enemy has tried so hard to destroy.
Thank You for being my Father, my Provider, my Rock when everything feels shaky. Hold me close today, and give me the strength to face tomorrow.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
