A Precious Gift at Seventeen.
There’s a girl I know. She’s only 17—soft-hearted, tender, and now carrying life within her. When she shared with me that she was pregnant, my first instinct was to remind her of how great a responsibility this would be, how much her life would change. But then God stopped me. He whispered to my heart and reminded me of my own journey.
When I was 18, I too found out I was expecting. The world around me seemed to sigh in disappointment. The voices that reached me were not filled with hope or love, but with judgment and silence. And though God placed a beautiful little boy in my arms, I carried the weight of shame heavier than I carried the blessing of grace.
But the truth is this: every child is a gift from God. Psalm 127:3 tells us, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Not one life enters this world by accident. Even when the timing surprises us, even when circumstances feel too heavy, God never makes mistakes.
This young girl hasn’t had the easiest childhood. She knows what it feels like to lack, to ache, and to long for love in its purest form. But here is the beauty of God’s grace: He is giving her a love so fierce and so beautiful that it will heal places in her heart she thought would remain broken forever. The love between a mother and her child is a reflection of His own love—unwavering, unconditional, and eternal.
If I had been surrounded with more encouragement, more godly counsel, and more love, I know I could have walked my journey of motherhood with greater peace. I wasn’t the perfect mom—I stumbled and fell many times—but God was faithful. He carried me, He taught me, and He comforted me. And that same God will do it again for her.
So, instead of criticism, let us cover her in love. Instead of stress, let us speak life. Instead of pointing out what went wrong, let us point her toward the One who makes all things right. For who are we to condemn what God Himself has ordained?
I believe with all my heart that this girl, alongside the baby’s father, can become wonderful parents—if they continue to trust in the Lord. If they plant their feet in His Word and raise this child in the house of God, His provision will never fail them. He will supply wisdom where they lack, strength when they are weary, and joy when they are overwhelmed.
Because nothing is greater than the love of God. And His love is more than enough to carry this family.

A Prayer of Blessing
Heavenly Father,
We lift up this precious young mother and her child to You today. Thank You for the gift of life that You have placed within her womb. Thank You for choosing her, Lord, and trusting her with this holy responsibility.
You know her story, Lord. You saw her tears as a little girl, You felt her pain when love seemed so far away. But now You are rewriting her story with the fierce and beautiful love of motherhood. Fill her heart with joy, and let this child be a reminder that You redeem every broken chapter.
Surround her with Your peace when fear tries to creep in. Fill her with strength when she feels weak. Cover her with love when the world is harsh. Provide for every need—spiritual, emotional, and physical.
We ask, Lord, that You bless the father of this child too. Teach him to lead with kindness, patience, and courage. Unite them in love, grounded in Your truth, so they may raise this child in a home filled with faith and grace.
Father, may this little one grow up knowing Your presence, Your Word, and Your endless love. May this baby’s life be a testimony of Your goodness, a reminder that You bring beauty from unexpected places.
And Lord, remind us—the community, the family, the church—to be Your hands and feet. To love without judgment, to encourage without hesitation, and to point every young mother back to the heart of Jesus.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray,
Amen.
