When Exhaustion Feels like Failure- Finding God in the Hardest Season.
Being a single mom wasn’t the plan. I never thought I’d be here — exhausted, drained, and questioning my own worth as a mother. I wake up every morning with the weight of it all pressing down on me. Sick kids, bills piling up, no car to even get to church, and this endless battle to keep my business afloat while feeling invisible. I pour my heart into social media posts for my school, hoping someone will see it, engage, or share... but when no one does, it feels like another punch to the gut. Even my blog, something I started with so much passion, sits mostly unread.
And then there’s me. The woman I see in the mirror doesn’t feel like me anymore. I can’t remember the last time I had the energy to really take care of myself — to eat right, to exercise, or even just to look like a woman. My weight keeps creeping up, and my clothes don’t fit the way they used to. I want to do better, to feel better, but by the end of the day, I’m so drained that the thought of cooking something healthy or moving my body feels impossible.
It’s like my mind never shuts off. I’m up late scrolling through social media, avoiding sleep because I know I’ll just wake up to do it all over again. I know I should be in the Word. I know I should pray more. I know I should lean into God instead of zoning out — but it feels like I’m running on fumes. I’m trying to survive the day-to-day, and somehow, I’m falling short in every area.
I feel like a failure. As a mom. As a business owner. As a woman. And if I’m being really honest… sometimes even as a child of God.
But here’s the thing: Feelings lie. The enemy is loud when we’re weak, and he knows exactly where to hit us — our identity. Our worth. Our ability to keep going. But even when I feel useless, God whispers that I’m still His. Even when I’m exhausted, He says I’m enough.
I don’t have this figured out. I’m still in the messy middle of it. I’m still crying out to God, telling Him I’m tired, I’m empty, and I don’t know how to keep going. But I’m learning that it’s okay to be here. God never asked me to be perfect. He just asks me to come to Him — tired, broken, and all.
If you’re in this place too, I want you to know you’re not alone. You’re not a failure because you’re struggling. You’re not less of a mother because you’re exhausted. And you’re not less of a woman because your body doesn’t look or feel the way you want it to. You are seen. You are loved. And this season, as painful as it is, won’t last forever.
Maybe the victory isn’t in having it all together — maybe it’s in showing up, even when it hurts. Even when you feel invisible. Even when you can barely pray.
God is in the mess with us. And He’s not finished with our stories yet. Let’s keep holding on. One breath, one prayer, one step at a time.
