Life with a Three-Year Old: Chaos, Cuddles and Jesus songs

Raising a three-year-old boy is like living in a never-ending action movie—one where the main character never runs out of energy, never stops talking, and somehow knows exactly how to push every single one of your buttons while also making you fall in love with him all over again.

My days at home with him feel like a mix between a wrestling match and bungee jumping. One minute, he’s launching himself off the couch like a superhero, and the next, he’s arguing with me like a seasoned lawyer about why he should be allowed to eat cookies for breakfast. He is ridiculously smart, knows exactly how to manipulate situations to his advantage, and has perfected the art of selective hearing.

“Don’t touch that.”
Touches it anyway.

“Please put your shoes on.”
Suddenly forgets how shoes work.

“Time for bed.”
Cue Oscar-worthy meltdown.

But then, just when I think I’m about to lose my mind, he’ll come running up with those big blue eyes, throw his arms around my neck, and say, “I love you, Mommy.” And just like that, my heart melts into a puddle on the floor.

For all his wild energy, he has the sweetest spirit. He loves God in the most beautiful, innocent way. He sings Jesus Loves Me like a pro, his little voice filling our home with a joy that reminds me why this season—chaotic as it is—is also sacred. He has a way of bringing faith into the everyday, reminding me that God’s love is simple, pure, and always present.

Motherhood at this stage is exhausting, unpredictable, and some days, I don’t know how I’m going to make it to bedtime. But it’s also full of laughter, surprises, and love so deep it brings me to tears.

So to every mom out there raising a wild, brilliant, mischievous, heart-melting three-year-old—you are not alone. The days are long, the battles are many, but the love? It’s endless.

And at the end of the day, when the house is finally quiet and I look at his peaceful, sleeping face, I remember—these moments won’t last forever. One day, I’ll miss the crazy. So for now, I’ll take a deep breath, pray for patience, and enjoy the ride.

Because even on the hardest days, I wouldn’t trade this little tornado of love for anything in the world.

Have you survived the three-year-old stage? Tell me your funniest (or most exhausting) moments in the comments!
