Bringing God into Early Childhood Education: The Struggle, the Calling and, the Reward

Early education isn’t just about teaching letters, numbers, and shapes—it’s about shaping hearts, planting seeds, and creating a foundation that will guide children for the rest of their lives. As Christian educators, we don’t just teach; we nurture souls. We don’t just prepare children for school; we prepare them for life—with God at the center of it all.

But in today’s world, spreading the Word in education isn’t easy.

There are challenges at every turn. Some parents are hesitant about faith being part of their child’s education. Some regulations make it difficult to fully express the Gospel in a school setting. And yet, in the midst of all these struggles, there’s this deep, undeniable calling—to make sure every child in our care experiences God’s love and grace.

I want every child who walks into my classroom to feel the peace of Christ, to know that they are fearfully and wonderfully made, to understand that their worth isn’t in grades or achievements but in the fact that they are loved by the Creator of the universe. I want their parents to experience that same peace—the peace of knowing their child is surrounded by faith, by prayer, by teachers who love them as their own.

A Christian school isn’t just a place of education—it’s a place of worship, of growth, of Holy Spirit-filled learning. There’s something different about a school where prayer isn’t just allowed but encouraged, where teachers aren’t just educators but spiritual mentors, where the presence of God is woven into every subject, every lesson, every interaction.

But behind the scenes, the weight we carry as Christian educators is heavy.

The long hours, the lesson planning, the prayers we say over our students. The way we go home and worry about the child struggling with reading, the one facing a tough home life, the one who asks deep questions about God and eternity that we want to answer just right. We give our whole hearts to these children, pouring into them emotionally, spiritually, and academically—yet so often, the world overlooks the burden we carry.

The lack of compassion for teachers, especially those of us pouring out our faith alongside our lessons, can be discouraging. But the love we have for these kids? It’s a love that reflects God’s love for us. It’s why we keep going. It’s why we wake up early, stay late, and give everything we have—because we know that what we do matters.

So to every teacher, every educator, every person trying to bring God into early education—you are seen. You are valued. You are doing kingdom work. And though the struggles are real, the reward is greater. Because when a child learns to read, that’s beautiful. But when a child learns about Jesus? That’s eternal.

May our schools be filled with His Spirit. May our classrooms be places of peace and love. And may every child and family we serve come to know the grace and goodness of God.
